Core Business Strategy

Strategic Management (UTDallas: BPS4305): Served as the Capstone course and consolidated the knowledge acquired from different operational areas (accounting, finance, MIS, marketing, etc.) for the purpose of examining the overall strategic management of the firm. Studied basic analysis techniques such as VRIN analysis, value chain analysis, and general environmental analysis, etc. Individually chose to explore eBay's expansion into China and overall international growth. Also explored Facebook's business strategy, specifically the launch of Oculus Rift. Inspired me to enroll in more advanced strategy classes and read Porter's Competitive Strategy.

Foundations of Business Strategy (Coursera: University of Virginia): Further developed my ability to think strategically, specifically through strict analysis of a competitive environment. Examined competitive markets and viewpoints of economic rents, then reviewed Porter's 5 forces and generic competitive positions. Ended with a discussion of strategic maps and capabilities analysis. Received a Verified Course Certificate with a final grade of 92%

Business Growth Strategy

Business Growth Strategy (Coursera: University of Virginia): Examined reasons and risks of business growth and analyzed 4 expansion methods. Began by detailing the process of growth by scaling, specifically through scenario planning. Then explored growth through entry especially game theory, pre-entry, and post-entry strategies. Finally, reviewed growth through acquisition, especially the challenges of integration, synergy evaluation, success factors, and acquisition alternatives.

CoderDojo NYC: I assessed market opportunities and recommended strategic positioning based on a simple SWOT analysis and a detailed competitor analysis.

Advanced Business Strategy (Coursera: University of Virginia): Built on analysis techniques and knowledge explained in Foundations of Business Strategy. Began by considering international strategies and basic entry methods (exporting, licenses and alliances, FDI). Performed competitive life cycle analyses, explored diversification strategy and diversification matrices, and ended by analyzing stakeholder management, specifically the alignment of primary and secondary stakeholders.

Strategic Planning and Execution (Coursera: University of Virginia): Part 4 of University of Virginia's Business Strategy specialization. Introduced key strategic analyses techniques such as hypothesis testing and reviewed various methods of strategic formulation (rapid prototyping, design thinking) and finished with an explanation of the 4A model of strategic execution.
